Patronage refunds are repayments to the patrons of a co-operative. The term comes from the consumer co-operative movement rooted in the literal meeting of 'patrons' who patronise an establishment and spend their money in it. It is also used in the US to describe the return of excess surplus to worker members. See How do Worker Cooperatives Work?
