The FairShares Association’s social auditing and diagnostic tools were strongly influenced by the following academic paper:
  • Ridley-Duff, R. J. and Southcombe, C. (2012) “The Social Enterprise Mark: a critical review of its conceptual dimensions”, Social Enterprise Journal, 8(3): 176-200. [1]

The Initial Social Audit presents six questions to gather initial information about social purpose and impact, ethics and values, and social democratic governance. It is usually the starting point for further work developing stakeholders' understanding of social enterprise (using the Social Enterprise Survey).
